Mr Nandu Thammaiah
Mr Nandu Thammaiah was bubbling with ideas. These people met in the Reformers Association office and there it was decided to draft a letter intending the move and sent to 50 prospective members in and around Gonikoppa The first meeting attended by about 30 people was held at the Parimala Mangala Vihara in Gonikoppal. It was decided to collect a princely sum of s 5000 initially from each member towards membership. Those days coffee was not as aromatic nor was pepper as hot! But the generous members agreed upon the stipulated amount foreseeing the enormous efforts and funds required to give shape to the idea of building a club of stature from scratch. Then Gonikoppa, began the site in huntf for Hathur land and for- the the club. present site Initially three spots were looked into. A site on Polibetta road suggested by Late Mr C. .K.Poovappa In1 the mean timea suggestion came up that the Club should be situated in the present Kodagu Planters Club site The Polibetta road site was given up because of legal complications, Hathur site because of a High tension line which crossed it and ultimately it was decided to go for the present site. Kodagu Planters Club site was registered in the name of another organization and the idea was given up Even though the Club was not registered it was decided to go ahead and buy the land and four acres of land was bought for a sum of Rs 75000/- in December 1985. Mrs Radha Achaya's contribution in making the club activities, games, dinners very memorable are worth mentioning at this-juncturex During the initial years Coorg Sports Club became famous for its cricket team and were distriet champions, thanks to efforts of Mr Lala Poonacha By the time of the General body meeting held on 19-12-1988 club had 97 members awethe basic infrastructure like the Guest house block, over head tank and the staff quarters had been constructed. From then on the Club has achieved many a mile stone. To mention a few: Guest rooms were opened on 1-10-1991 Main Club house in 1995 Badminton court in 1997 Pro Lounge bar in 2007 spopnsored by Firepro and thanks to Mr Narendra, a voluntary contribution by a member and of immense value to the Club. Membership to dependents and Ladies. Affiliation with clubs in Bangalore and Mysore in 2008-09.

Mr P.T.Poonacha, the Hon Secretary. Role of Mr M.W.Chinnappa in building strong ethics and characters of this club are to be remembered forever. A man of vision and upright thinking with his army background he helped the then committee members to formulate the bye- -laWs rules and regulations ofd our club and has been responsible for the phenomenal development of this club to the present stature. Efforts of Mr C.K.Poovappa in identifying and purchase of this land and the gracious hostess Mrs Baby Poovappa allowing their personal shuttle court for Club tournaments and ceaseless efforts of Mr C.A.Achaya, and Mr Nandu Thammaiah in the construction activities are to be remembered always.
